Building construction measures decided

At its meeting today, the City Council approved the construction measures for the following properties, subject to the adoption of the 2019/2020 budget.

Rudolf-Krahl-Str. 5 industrial wasteland

The entire building complex of the former steam cleaning plant at Rudolf-Krahl-Strasse 5, built in 1898, is to be removed. In addition to the ruined buildings, which have not been used since 1990 and were damaged even more severely by a fire in May 2018, the floor slabs and foundations are also to be dismantled. The entire site will then be renaturalised and landscaped. The foundation and basement pits will be filled with soil materials. This measure will enhance the site from both an ecological and environmental point of view The dismantling is scheduled to begin in May and continue until October 2019. The costs amount to around 694,000 euros, of which 555,000 euros in subsidies are planned.

Ernst-Wabra-Straße school property

The Ernst-Busch speech therapy school at Ernst-Wabra-Straße 34 is being completely renovated and made barrier-free at a cost of almost 16 million euros. Following the building work, primary and secondary school pupils will once again be housed under one roof at the site. The building complex, which was built between 1983 and 1985, has not been completely refurbished. In addition to the four-storey school building, the connecting corridor to the sports hall, the hall itself and the outdoor area are also to be renovated. The school will also receive a three-storey extension with a partial basement. This will include a glazed dining hall on the ground floor and specialised classrooms on the upper floors.

The construction project includes the following areas, among others: The facade of the school building is to be renovated to improve energy efficiency and the windows and exterior doors are to be replaced. The heating, plumbing and electrical installations will also be replaced. In addition to the energy refurbishment, the sports hall will be given a new sports floor, a new baffle wall covering and new doors. Outside, a sports field with a 100-metre running track, a long jump facility, a shot put area and a small playing field with a ball catch fence will be built. Seating elements and raised beds will be built in the courtyard. To enable teaching to take place outside, a set of seating steps will be built from the new extension to the outdoor facilities as a "green classroom". The new climbing facility, the double swing, the slackline, the floor trampolines and table tennis tables will make it easier to organise breaks and leisure activities.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in July 2019 and be completed in February 2022.

After the refurbishment, the primary school will have three pupils and the secondary school two.
The school will be able to accommodate a total of 350 pupils and 50 teachers and carers.

Markersdorfer Straße sports hall complex

The two sports halls at Markersdorfer Str. 64 and 64a are an unrenovated complex that was built in 1978. The halls are used for school and club sports. They are to be refurbished to improve their energy efficiency. They are also to be given disabled access by means of a ramp.

For the energy-efficient refurbishment, the ceiling construction will be replaced, the door systems will be adapted to meet current fire protection requirements and the district heating connections, electrical installations and window systems will be renewed. In both halls, the sanitary areas, including the tiling, will be renewed. The Markersdorfer Straße 64a sports hall will also have a disabled toilet.
The sports floor in the halls will be renewed in the areas where water damage has occurred.

In addition to the refurbishment of the halls, the outdoor area will be given new paths and green spaces, the car park area will be renewed and a new access road will be built from Dittersdorfer Straße.

The costs for the refurbishment amount to around 2.1 million euros, including around 876,000 euros in subsidies. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2019 and end in October 2020. It cannot be used during the construction phase.

At its meeting today, the city council also approved an additional allocation of 170,000 euros for the hall for the 2018 budget. Current construction projects in the city exemplify a development in the construction industry that is increasingly determining the financing and realisation of measures. In this respect, the construction costs were adjusted again based on experience in order to avoid financing difficulties for the construction work.
