Budget for citizens' platforms to be significantly increased
At its meeting today, the City Council decided to increase the budget for the existing citizens' platforms from April 2019 to March 2021.
From 1 April, the City of Chemnitz will provide an annual citizens' budget of 1.61 euros per inhabitant for organisational costs and small projects that serve the development of the urban area. In addition, material costs for the platforms are subsidised and the personnel costs for the respective coordinator are covered. This new regulation affects the citizens' platforms in the urban areas of Mitte (centre, Lutherviertel, Kapellenberg, Altchemnitz, Bernsdorf), Mitte-West (Schloßchemnitz, Altendorf, Kaßberg) and Süd (Kappel, Helbersdorf, Morgenleite, Markersdorf, Hutholz). The budget of the newly founded Citizens' Platform Centre-East (Gablen, Yorckgebiet) will also be adjusted.
Previously, 16,000 euros were available per civic platform per year, but under the new decision, this amounts to between 63,300 euros and 76,000 euros, depending on the number of inhabitants. Personnel costs will also be covered.
The budget can be used to realise projects requested by citizens, such as the installation of a park bench or the cleaning of a playground.
At the same time, the city council decided today that the budgets for the localities will be adjusted accordingly so that they are not penalised. The calculation for the subsidies is now based on the population in the respective areas; compared to the old subsidies, the higher amount is paid in each case. In three localities - Grüna, Wittgensdorf and Einsiedel - there will be a further improvement.
