Browse in a deckchair - Book Summer Saxony

The Chemnitz City Library's holiday campaign starts for the tenth time on 12 July

From 12 July to 4 September, Chemnitz City Library is inviting all 11 to 16-year-olds to the Book Summer Saxony. Hundreds of brand new thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels and cutting-edge stories about love and life have been acquired exclusively for club members. Participation is uncomplicated, free of charge and not tied to a regular library card. Pupils who can prove that they have read three books during the summer holidays receive a certificate and are invited to the closing party in September.

Once again this year, children and young people can get creative and show in their own way that they have read the book. There are no limits to the imagination of the participants: Audio and video contributions to the book content or drawings of scenes are just as possible as a review. Alternatively, questions about the content can again be answered at the advice desks in the city library.

New this year is the online voting for the Book Summer Readers' Prize. You can find out about the nominees from the comfort of your deckchair. The Riesa Youth Jury has selected ten of the latest titles by German authors and created book trailers. These can be viewed on a tablet on site in the libraries. Reading samples of all the nominated books are also available. Club members can vote for their favourite directly using a QR code.

The Book Summer in Chemnitz is taking place in the following libraries:

  • Central Library in the TIETZ
  • District library in the Yorck area, Scharnhorststraße 11
  • Vita-Center district library, Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße 22
  • Einsiedel district library, Einsiedler Hauptstraße 79b


The Saxon Book Summer is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxon State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism with the support of the Chemnitz City Library Supporters Association. The Book Summer is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
