Broadband expansion starts in Einsiedel

Press invitation: 6 May, 3 pm, Gymnasium Einsiedel

Next Monday, 6 May at 3 pm, Mayor Michael Stötzer and the State Secretary of the State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Dr Hartmut Mangold, will be holding a ground-breaking ceremony for the broadband expansion at Einsiedel secondary school. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.

The underserved districts were identified in a previous market exploration procedure. Neighbourhoods are considered underserved if they have a bandwidth of less than 30 Mbit/s in 2016 and will not be connected with at least 30 Mbit/s in the next three years. In total, the broadband expansion covers around 5,380 buildings with around 10,000 households.

The aim of the expansion is to provide schools, households and companies in the selected areas with a bandwidth of at least 100 Mbits/second. The aim is to create a future-proof Internet supply that will enable faster Internet access for schools, residents as well as small and medium-sized companies.

The total costs amount to 75.8 million euros and are being funded by the federal government and the Free State with a total of 90 per cent. The broadband expansion is scheduled for completion in December 2020.
