Bridge for premium cycle path continues to be installed

Excavation of the fourth bridge section - Kalkstraße closure required from 20 to 23 January and from 3 to 6 February

From Monday, 20 January, the steel construction assembly for the approximately 185 metre long bridge structure on Kalkstraße will continue. On Tuesday, 21 January, the fourth bridge section, another so-called shot, will be delivered in two parts and initially lifted onto the assembly site. Kalkstraße will have to be used for the crane locations. Once again, two cranes with a nominal lifting capacity of more than 90 tonnes are being used.

Kalkstraße must therefore be fully closed for this work. The closure will be in place from Monday, 20 January, approx. 6 pm until Thursday, 23 January, approx. 4 am.

NOTE: The closure of Kalkstraße, originally announced until 23 January, can be lifted early on 21 January from 8 pm. The two parts of the fourth bridge section have been delivered and placed on the assembly site by crane.1)

For the installation of the fourth bridge section across the entire width of Kalkstraße, the road will have to be fully closed again. The closure will be in place from Monday, 3 February, approx. 6 pm, until Thursday, 6 February, approx. 4 am.
Two cranes with a nominal lifting capacity of approx. 160 tonnes and approx. 200 tonnes will be required to lift the fourth, longest and heaviest section.

NOTE: The closure of Kalkstraße, originally announced until 4 am on 6 February, can be lifted early on 5 February from 6 pm. The installation of the fourth bridge section across the entire width of Kalkstraße has been completed.2)

The diversion is via Trützschlerstraße - Limbacher Straße - Oberfrohnaer Straße - Kalkstraße (to the Rottluff motorway junction and the industrial estate).

The company Hentschke Bau GmbH from Bautzen has been commissioned with the construction work and Metallbau Schubert GmbH from Markersdorf with the steel construction.

The fifth shot is expected to be installed at the end of February in week 9, which means that preparations are currently underway to close Kalkstrasse from Monday 24 February at around 6 pm to Thursday 27 February at around 4 am*.

Construction work on the approximately 185-metre-long bridge structure for the Wüstenbrand-Chemnitz premium cycle path on Kalkstraße began on 1 July 2024. The bridge is necessary to allow the cycle path to cross Kalkstraße without levelling out. This fulfils an important criterion of the funding conditions for the premium cycle path. Completion is planned by the end of October 2025.
