Bornaer Straße roundabout to be renewed
Construction work begins on 8 July 2019
On Monday, 8 July, the repair of the Bornaer Straße, Blankenburgstraße, Heinersdorfer Straße roundabout will begin.
The Bornaer Straße roundabout has serious structural defects. In particular, the roundabout carriageway and the carriageway dividers are worn. The pedestrian crossing points do not comply with current standards. The existing drainage pipes of the road drains are only partially functional in some sections. The drainage channels in front of the kerbs are washed out and show signs of subsidence, meaning that surface water cannot drain away completely.
The work is being carried out in sections while maintaining traffic on the access roads and the roundabout.
The following traffic routes are planned:
Construction phase 0
Dismantling of the Heinersdorfer Straße, Blankenburgstraße and Bornaer Straße carriageway dividers, one after the other to the south under half-sided traffic management with four-sided traffic lights and pedestrian guidance. The work is expected to last until Wednesday, 10 July 2019.
Construction phase 1
Execution in the northern circular carriageway, including the northern carriageway side of Blankenburgstraße and Heinersdorfer Straßas well as the northern entrance and exit of Bornaer Straße, half-sided traffic guidance with traffic lights on three sides and pedestrian guidance for
Blankenburgstraße, Heinersdorfer Straße and southern Bornaer Straße. The northern entrance and exit of Bornaer Straße must be fully closed. The diversion will be via Blankenburgstraße, Dammweg and Chemnitztalstraße. The work will begin on Thursday, 11 July. At the end of the summer holidays on 17 August 2019, the full closure of Bornaer Straße will be lifted.
Construction phase 2
Execution in the south-western circular carriageway, including the southern carriageway side of Heinersdorfer Straße and the western side of southern Bornaer Straße, half-sided traffic guidance with four-sided traffic lights and pedestrian guidance for all roads.
The work will last from 19 August to 20 September 2019.
Construction phase 3
Execution in the south-eastern circular carriageway, including the southern carriageway side of Blankenburgstraße and the eastern side of southern Bornaeastern side of the southern Bornaer Straße, half-sided traffic guidance with four-sided traffic lights and pedestrian guidance for all roads. The work will last from 23 September to 25 October 2019.
To relieve congestion at the Heinersdorfer Straße entrance and exit, the one-way traffic regulation on Heinersdorfer Straße between Heusteig and the access road to the sewage treatment plant will be cancelled during all construction phases. Traffic will be regulated by traffic lights. No detours will be signposted via the nearby Heinersdorfer Straße road network.
The City of Chemnitz will spend a total of around 440,000 euros on the project. The company Eiffage Infra Ost GmbH Drebach has been commissioned to carry out the work.
