Book Summer Saxony: Summer - Holidays - Reading Happiness

City library: Offers for children and young people from 16 June

On Monday, 16 June, the Saxon Book Summer 2025 will kick off for the duration of the summer holidays under the title "Hot Days - Cool Books!". The points of contact in Chemnitz are the central library in the TIETZ and the district libraries in the Vita Centre and the Yorck Centre. In addition, the FaBi mobile library will bring the book summer as a pop-up library to the Einsiedel district library on 1 and 15 July and to the Wittgensdorf district library on 4 and 18 July.

Registration for the book summer is possible on site at the libraries, a declaration of consent from parents is not required. Anyone who reads three books during the summer holidays will receive a certificate of successful participation and an invitation to the Book Summer closing party. This will take place after the holidays.

Exclusively for all 11 to 16-year-olds, hundreds of titles from the latest children's and young adult literature are available to read during the book summer: exciting thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels and cutting-edge stories about love and life.

On Friday, 27 June, all primary school children aged 6 to 10 will also be able to get an easy start to the book summer with the Summer Reading Happiness campaign. Reading rucksacks with the latest summer reads and a small surprise will be lent out. Borrowing is possible with a normal library card, which is free of charge for children and young people up to their 18th birthday. The offer is valid while stocks last.

The following locations are involved:

  • Central library in the TIETZ,
  • District library in the Vita Centre,
  • District library in the Yorck Centre,
  • district library in Einsiedel and
  • district library in Wittgensdorf

Buchsommer Sachsen is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxony State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and the Chemnitz City Library Supporters' Association.

The programme is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
