Book Summer Saxony 2022 holiday campaign

City Library: Photo session on 4 July, 9 a.m., Central Library, TIETZ

The eleventh book summer starts on Monday, 4 July at 9 a.m. in the TIETZ Central Library. Representatives of the media are invited to the photo session.

From 4 July to 27 August, the city library invites all 11 to 16-year-olds to the Book Summer Saxony in the Central Library in the TIETZ and the district libraries.
With LARA, the cargo bike, the big holiday reading event will also be offered for the first time on a mobile basis at selected schools and in Konkordia Park.

Hundreds of brand-new thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels and cutting-edge stories about love and life have once again been purchased exclusively for club members.

Participation is uncomplicated, free of charge and not tied to a regular library card.

Pupils who can prove that they have read three books during the summer holidays receive a certificate and are invited to the closing party at the Metropol cinema after the summer holidays.

The dates for Book Summer Saxony on tour:

  • 7 July, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Konkordia Park (open to the public)
  • 11 July, 9.15 a.m. to 1.10 p.m. Untere Luisenschule, Fritz-Matschke-Str. 21 *
  • 13 July, 9.10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Josephinenschule, Josephinenplatz 9 *
    * for pupils of the respective school

The Book Summer in Chemnitz takes place in the following libraries:

  • Central Library in the TIETZ
  • District library in the Yorck area, Scharnhorststraße 11
  • Vita Centre District Library, Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße 22
  • Einsiedel district library, Einsiedler Hauptstraße 79b


The Saxon Book Summer is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxon State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism with the support of the Chemnitz City Library Supporters' Association.

The project is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
