Book summer holiday campaign in the city library ends with record number of participants
Closing party with "De Nischelhupper" on 26 August 2016 at the Atomino
The book summer at Chemnitz City Library ends on 26 August 2016 at 4 pm with a closing party at Club Atomino. Now in its 7th year, the popular holiday event has attracted a record number of participants. 593 children and young people aged 10 to 16 registered for the reading promotion project and borrowed almost 2,400 books during the summer holidays (compared to 447 participants reading 1,785 books in 2015).
All participants who managed to read three books from the specially selected book selection during the summer holidays and answer questions about the content are invited to the final party. There they receive their certificate, which attests to a great reading performance during the holidays and is honoured by the German teachers. The Chemnitz jump crew "De Nischelhupper" will provide the party atmosphere.
The Book Summer Saxony reading project is under the patronage of the Saxon State Ministry of Culture, is sponsored by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts and is organised by the Saxon State Association of the German Library Association. The joint launch took place on 14 June 2016 and 90 libraries took part this year. The project has successfully established itself nationwide as an instrument for promoting reading.
The association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz supported the campaign this year with 1,000 euros.
