Book summer holiday campaign at the city library comes to an end

Closing party with the "Unemployed Construction Workers" on 24 August at the Atomino

The 9th edition of the Book Summer at Chemnitz City Library ends tomorrow, Friday 24 August at 3.30 pm with a closing party at Club Atomino. The continuing popularity of the holiday event is demonstrated by the fact that 447 children and young people between the ages of 11 and 16 once again took part, borrowing almost 1,500 books.

All participants who have managed to read three books from the specially selected entertaining book selection during the summer holidays and answer questions about the content are invited to the closing party. There they receive their certificate, which attests to a great reading performance during the holidays and is honoured by the German teachers. The Chemnitz band Die Arbeitslosen Bauarbeiter will provide the party atmosphere.

The Book Summer Saxony reading project is under the patronage of the Saxon State Ministry of Culture and is sponsored by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts and organised by the Saxon State Association of the German Library Association. The joint launch took place on 19 June 2018 and 90 libraries took part this year. The project has successfully established itself throughout the state as an instrument for promoting reading.

The association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz supported the campaign this year with 1,000 euros.
