Book exchange. New publications by Saxon authors in a debate
Literature discussion on 9 November, 6 pm at TIETZ, Central Library
The Sächsischer Literaturrat e.V. and the Chemnitz City Library invite you to the next edition of the "Book Exchange" on 9 November at 6 pm in the Central Library in the TIETZ. Admission is free.
Literary critic Michael Hametner, writer Diana Feuerbach from the Ore Mountains and radio journalist and author Jörg Schieke will be discussing the following books:
- Jörg Bernig "in untergegangenen reichen" (poems, Edition Rugerup)
- Jana Hensel "Keinland" (novel, Wallstein Verlag)
- Madeleine Prahs "Die Letzten" (novel, dtv)
- Ingo Schulze "Peter Holtz. His happy life told by himself" (novel, S. Fischer)
Following the critics' panel, Jana Hensel will read from her debut novel "Keinland". In it, she tells the story of a love that seems impossible from the start - between Nadja, in her mid-30s, who grew up in the GDR and works as a journalist for a newspaper in Berlin, and Martin, around 50, who grew up Jewish in Frankfurt am Main and lives in Tel Aviv with parents who survived Auschwitz.
For 15 years now, the Saxon Literature Council (Sächsischer Literaturrat e. V.), the state's umbrella organisation for literature, has been bringing attention to four new books from here twice a year with its "Book Exchange", a debate on new publications from Saxony. In a critical, informative and entertaining way, it is shown that it is definitely worth taking a look at those books whose authors come from here or live here.

Information on the authors:
Jörg Bernig, born in Wurzen in 1964, lives in Radebeul. The storyteller and poet wrote his doctoral thesis on "The Battle of Stalingrad in the German-language novel after 1945". His works have earned him the Eichendorff Literature Prize (2011), among others.
Jana Hensel, born in Borna in 1976, lives in Berlin. The author and journalist has written for "Die Zeit", among others, and was deputy editor-in-chief of "Freitag" from 2012 to 2014. She became known for her book "Zonenkinder" (2002).
Madeleine Prahs, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1980, lives in Leipzig. Her debut novel "Neighbours" was published in 2014. For her work on "Die Letzten", she received a scholarship from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the LCB, among others.
Ingo Schulze, born in Dresden in 1962, lives in Berlin. "Peter Holtz. Sein glückliches Leben erzählt von ihm selbst" was nominated for the 2017 German Book Prize (longlist) and honoured with the Rheingau Literature Prize.
