Bomb found in Markersdorf - accommodation available for residents from 6 a.m. onwards

Accommodation for local residents is available from 6am

Due to the discovery of a five-centner aerial bomb in Wilhelm-Firl-Straße in the Markersdorf district, the restricted area has to be evacuated from 6 am.

All affected residents and other persons are asked to find alternative accommodation themselves.

The following properties will be available from 6 a.m. for people who cannot find alternative accommodation:

  • Chemnitz Exhibition Centre (Hall 1), Messeplatz 1
  • Richard-Hartmann-Halle, Fabrikstraße 9
  • Large gymnasium "Am Schloßteich", Schloßstraße 13-15
  • Sportforum, athletics hall, Reichenhainer Straße 154
  • Einsiedel grammar school, Niederwaldstraße 11
  • Hartmannschule, BSZ for technology III, Annaberger Straße 186-188

The accommodation is equipped in such a way that the regulations of the Corona Protection Ordinance can be complied with. Accordingly, there is only limited capacity available, i.e. if one of the accommodations is full, another property may have to be used.

Please note:

  • Masks are compulsory in the accommodation centres
  • Please bring appropriate food (food and drinks) with you
  • Pets are not allowed in the accommodation. Please ensure that they have sufficient food at home.
  • Please inform your elderly neighbours about the possibility of accommodation

Defusing the bomb can only begin once all persons have left the relevant area. A speedy operation therefore depends largely on the co-operation of the people affected by the evacuation.

It is not yet possible to say when people will be able to return to their homes. The cancellation of the evacuation will be announced as soon as possible.

All further information, advice and tips can be found at www.chemnitz.de. There is an interactive city map that residents can use to check whether their own home is in the affected area. For further information, please call 0371 488-3344.

Supplement to PM 684:

CVAG is organising a shuttle service between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. at the following stops for affected people in the restricted area who are unable to get to one of the shelters on their own:

  • Paul-Bertz-Straße stop (on Scheffelstraße)
  • Wilhelm-Firl-Straße stop (on Dittersdorfer Straße)
  • Ludwig-Kühn-Straße stop (on Chemnitzer Straße opposite Kaufland)
