Bomb found in Markersdorf
Residents must leave the exclusion zone from 6 a.m. tomorrow morning - schools, daycare centres, companies and businesses must remain closed.
Following the discovery of a five-centner aerial bomb in Wilhelm-Firl-Straße in the Markersdorf district, the preparations of the city administration, the fire brigade and the police regarding the necessary evacuation are continuing at full speed.
The assessment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the Saxon police remains unchanged. In order to defuse the bomb, an evacuation within a radius of around 1000 metres around the site of the discovery is absolutely necessary.
In consultation with all parties involved and after careful consideration of the corona-related restrictions, the evacuation will begin on Friday morning, 6 November 2020, 6 am. All affected residents are asked to leave the restricted area as quickly as possible.
All affected residents and other persons are requested to organise their own alternative accommodation. For people who cannot find alternative accommodation, the city will announce alternative accommodation later today. It is not yet possible to say when people will be able to return to their flats and houses.
Defusing the bomb can only begin once everyone has left the relevant area. A speedy operation therefore depends largely on the co-operation of the people affected by the evacuation.
Tomorrow, Friday, all day-care centres and schools in the evacuation area must remain closed. The necessary closures will also affect all doctors' surgeries, companies, shops and service providers located within the exclusion zone.
