Acoustic cables damaged by vandalism
The acoustic signal for the visually impaired has been damaged by vandalism at the roadworks for the renovation of Henriettenstraße between Franz-Mehring-Straße and Erich-Mühsam-Straße in the Kaßberg district. This has now been discovered during a traffic safety inspection. Specifically, the connecting cables to the acoustic signal for the visually impaired at the traffic lights have been destroyed by external forces.
This constitutes dangerous interference with road traffic and is therefore a criminal offence under Section 315 b of the German Criminal Code (StGB). As a result of this vandalism, the signalling for the blind no longer works. Whether a repair is possible is currently being examined, as the replacement of the destroyed system technology is proving to be problematic.
Work on the Henriettenstraße construction section between Franz-Mehring-Straße and Erich-Mühsam-Straße has been ongoing since the beginning of September. In a few days, the pavement will be completed and the construction work will concentrate on the carriageway renewal. During this time, the carriageway at the Franz-Mehring-Straße/Henriettenstraße junction will be restricted and traffic will be controlled by roadworks traffic lights.
A signalised pedestrian crossing has also been set up. The blind acoustics were fitted with a timer (Mon-Fri 6am to 8pm and Sat-Sun 8am to 6pm). The volume was adjusted to the ambient volume so that visually impaired people could hear the crossing.
