City library: Reading goody bags are packed for primary school children

From 9 February, reading goody bags for primary school children will once again be available at the central library in the TIETZ and the district libraries in the Vita-Center, Yorckgebiet, Einsiedel and Wittgensdorf. They can be borrowed with a valid library card, which is free for children up to the age of 18.

A surprise bag is usually associated with surprises - with the great excitement of what might be hidden behind the colourful packaging. But with reading? Probably not... It's a different story with the Chemnitz City Library's reading surprise bags: the holiday activity for primary school children combines children's curiosity about a surprise bag with exciting stories.

Surprising reading moments are guaranteed, as the children don't know beforehand exactly which books they will borrow with the goody bags. Only a themed sticker reveals the direction the story or non-fiction book might take. In addition to the books, the goody bag also contains other surprises for the curious readers.

Background

The Reading Wonder Bags holiday reading campaign was launched in winter 2022 when no holiday events could take place in the library due to the coronavirus restrictions. To give the children a special experience anyway, the librarians got creative and lovingly put together the surprise packages.

A total of almost 230 reading surprise bags were borrowed in 2022. Due to the high demand, the campaign will now be repeated.
