Black box gardening: trying out new things and protecting species

On Thursday, 1 June, from 5 to 7.15 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites interested parties to a lecture on Blackbox Gardening at the Think-Place Creative Hub, Reitbahnstraße 80. Participants will learn what this gardening philosophy is all about and how it can be used to help protect native plant and insect species.

In black box gardening, the gardeners largely leave it up to the plants themselves to decide where to sow their seeds and in which places they feel particularly at home. The aim of this gardening method is to create a small, self-contained ("black box") ecosystem that is self-regulating and requires little maintenance. The seed mixtures used are particularly important. Correctly selected, they give the garden a wonderful blaze of colour throughout the year. They also create an insect-friendly terrain that provides food and protection.
In this course, gardening expert Petra Ottkowski first introduces garden design ideas and helpful methods for successfully growing seeds and cuttings. To ensure that the colourful garden is also an ideal habitat for native insects, interested parties can be inspired by the seed mixtures from Nachhall e. V.. Participants can also bring their own seeds and cuttings to exchange.
The event is a co-operation between the Nachhall e. V. seed garden and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
