On Monday, 23 June, the regional biology competition for pupils in year 7 will take place at the Chemnitz School Biology Centre in the Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147. A total of 42 students from the Chemnitz and Zwickau regions will put their knowledge and skills to the test in an exciting competition.
Representatives of the media are invited to the award ceremony in front of the main building of the Chemnitz Botanical Garden from 13:00 to 13:30.
A highlight of the day will be the specialist lecture by Prof. Dr Thorsten Schäfer on the subject of radioactive waste and deep geological disposal, which will show the students how closely biological and social issues are linked.
Dedicated students from Johannes Kepler Gymnasium Chemnitz will be responsible for correcting and supervising the competition, giving them valuable insights into didactic work and the organisation of scientific competitions.
The competition is the only event in the Free State of Saxony to promote gifted students in the subject of biology at lower secondary level and is aimed specifically at grammar school students interested in biology. The event thus contributes to the promotion of young talent in the STEM fields (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology).
