"Bicycle corpses" at Chemnitz main station are removed
The bikes in question will be marked shortly
On Monday, 6 March, from 10 a.m., the City of Chemnitz will remove all "bicycle corpses" from the bicycle parking facilities on the station forecourt and dispose of them immediately and professionally in order to restore the parking facilities for cyclists.
In the coming days, the bicycles found there will be identified and documented on site by employees of the City of Chemnitz and checked by the police against the list of bicycles wanted. Bicycles identified as "bike corpses" are recognisably marked.
Owners of bicycles permanently parked there are asked to remove their property by 9 a.m. on 6 March at the latest. Otherwise, the City of Chemnitz will assume that ownership of the "bike corpses" has been finally relinquished. It is no longer possible to reclaim removed "bicycle corpses" after 6 March, as they will be disposed of immediately.
The city of Chemnitz operates two bicycle parking facilities on the forecourt of the main railway station with a total of around 100 parking spaces. During several on-site inspections, numerous bicycles were found that had obviously not been used for a long period of time. Some bicycles are no longer fit to ride due to missing components. These so-called "bicycle corpses" permanently block the bicycle parking facilities and thus reduce the parking options for cyclists at the main station.
Bicycles with defective or missing wheels (one or both), defective or missing brakes or parts of the brake system, missing saddle (in combination with the other features mentioned) and/or no longer functional or missing pedal cranks or chain are considered "bike corpses".
