Bibliotheca - quo vadis?

A podcast on the future of public libraries from the Chemnitz Library Lab

BibLab-C at Chemnitz Central Library is breaking new ground: the new podcast series on the future of public libraries "Bibliotheca - quo vadis?" has been available online since mid-October 2021.

In the interview podcast, library experts and academics from Germany and abroad as well as citizens of the city of Chemnitz talk to employees of the city library. Together, they want to find out what the public library of the future could look like, what requirements it must fulfil, what events should take place there and what mental and physical spaces it would like to open up.

In episode one, Antonia Lahmé is an interview guest. She is Head of Funding and Programmes at the German Federal Cultural Foundation and talks about the history and objectives of the "hochdrei - Stadtbibliotheken verändern" fund. Quote from the funding principles of the "hochdrei" fund:
"The fund provides funding for exemplary projects by municipal and community libraries that are developed and implemented together with partners from urban society. The projects must be suitable for developing the library as a future-oriented space for encounters, cultural exchange and social debate through creative event formats."

The episode will be accompanied by music from Ensemble C of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. The young Ensemble C of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School with around ten members of different ages plays and experiments with sounds and noises from today, here based on the motif of the "Ode to Joy" under the direction of Andreas Winkler.

In episode two, the podcast visits the advanced German 11/2 course at Dr Wilhelm André Grammar School in Chemnitz. The students talk about why they have always loved the library and yet almost never go there anymore.
This episode is accompanied by music from pupils of the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium and the Chemnitz Municipal Music School.

In episode three, which is currently in preparation, Corinna Meinel will be a guest. She has been the director of Chemnitz City Library since September 2021.

The series, which is produced in cooperation with Radio T e.V., will be published HERE and on all popular streaming services. Episode two will be available from 5 November, episode three will be released at the end of November. You can also listen during the Advent season, when special literary works will play the leading role. Further episodes are being planned.

The BibLab-C project is supported by the "hochdrei - Stadtbibliotheken verändern" fund of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
