Bernsdorf swimming complex to open in 2024

Indoor swimming pool goes into operation at the start of the coming school year

The indoor swimming pool at the Bernsdorf swimming complex will go into operation at the start of the 2024 school year. This was announced today by Michael Stötzer, Mayor of Construction, during an on-site visit. Accordingly, work on the new building should be completed by mid-2024.

The cost of the new building on the site of the swimming complex is around 24.6 million euros. Of this, around 13.2 million euros in funding from the "Bridges to the Future" programme is planned.

In June 2016, Chemnitz City Council decided to build a new indoor swimming pool suitable for competitions. The new swimming complex at the site of the outdoor pool in Bernsdorf is intended to replace the functions of the former Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool and strengthen the location of the Bernsdorf outdoor pool. The outdoor pool area of the new complex is scheduled to go into operation in 2025.

The new indoor swimming pool will have a 25-metre swimming pool with six lanes as well as a teaching pool that can also be used by schools for swimming lessons. A paddling area is planned for families with smaller children. There will also be a diving pool.
