On Friday 27 June - just in time for the start of the holidays - the Bernsdorf outdoor pool, Bernsdorfer Straße 213, will be opened.
All Chemnitz residents are invited to a pool party from 12 noon to 8 pm. Admission is free for children and young people up to the age of 16 on this day (in the outdoor pool area).
Visitors can look forward to activities such as an aqua course, bouncy castle and taster dives.
The Bernsdorf outdoor pool will be officially opened at 10 a.m. by Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky in the presence of the construction companies and sponsors involved. Representatives of the media are invited to attend and will be given a press tour afterwards.
With the completion and opening of the outdoor pool area, the Bernsdorf pool complex, consisting of the indoor and outdoor pools, is now complete.
The town council decided to renovate the outdoor pool in Bernsdorf, which has been in operation since 1925, in October 2023. Work began in January 2024.
In the new outdoor pool, the pool area is divided into two pools. The swimmers' pool with six 50-metre lanes has been equipped for competitions. The non-swimmers' pool, measuring around 34 by 17 metres, was built as a leisure pool and equipped with attractions such as a wide slide and a water mushroom.
The play area lies like an island above the adventure pool and invites you to discover and play with its modelled terrain, climbing ship mast and barrier-free swing. The toddler pool has remained within sight of the play area, as it was already part of the former outdoor pool.
A new barrier-free building with changing areas, sanitary facilities and lockers has been created. A photovoltaic system has been installed on this new sanitary and changing building (building 3). The existing buildings for pool supervision and storage facilities were renovated.
The costs for the renovation of the Bernsdorf outdoor pool amount to around EUR 7.66 million (net), of which EUR 2.74 million is federal funding from the "Renovation of municipal facilities - sport, youth, culture" funding programme.
Note:
Initially, only about half of the spacious sunbathing lawn can be used. This area was covered with turf from mid-May. This means that the outdoor pool can currently accommodate approx. 1,000 visitors at a time. The second part of the sunbathing lawn will be reworked until the end of July 2025 in parallel with the open-air pool operations. The two beach volleyball courts will also be restored by then.
