Members of the ensemble are Raphael Kopp, Lara Sommer (accordion), Dan Thiele (cello), Daniel Stadtfeld (trumpet) and in the Trio Noir: Sebastian Lange (saxophone), Zhifeng Hu (piano) and Christoph Lindner (percussion). The conductor is Gerhard Scherer, Head of the New Music Department at the Neukölln Music School and lecturer at the Bremen University of the Arts.
The Landesjugendensemble Neue Musik Berlin was founded in 2013 and since then has focussed on music from classical modernism onwards, always performing and premiering works by living composers.
The young people, pupils and students aged between 14 and 25 are often winners of competitions and want to broaden their horizons by engaging with new music. The ensemble is directed by a dual leadership of Jobst Liebrecht and Gerhard Scherer. It performs regularly at the Deutsche Oper, the Konzerthaus Berlin and at festivals. The Trio Noir, which emerged from the Landesjugendensemble, was awarded 2nd prize in the Alice Samter Competition for Chamber Music.
