Before the start of the new school year: Construction balance in Chemnitz schools and school facilities - around 28 million for investments and equipment in the city's 2012 financial budget

At the start of the new school year 2012/2013, pupils and teachers from the sports secondary school will move into the sports school centre in the building at Reichenhainer Straße 206. The official opening of the new complex will be celebrated with a ceremony with the Mayor of Chemnitz on Saturday, 8 September. Prior to this, representatives of the media will have the opportunity to view the building and the teaching conditions at a press event on Tuesday, 4 September - you will receive a separate invitation for this. The school centre includes the new three-field sports hall and the connector with kitchen and multi-purpose area as well as the new sports middle school. The outdoor facilities (currently still without planting) and access road should be completed by the end of the summer school holidays. A total of almost 15.5 million euros will be invested, of which a good 6.2 million euros will be subsidised.

The extensive construction work at Anton S. Makarenko primary school, which began in June 2010 and was realised in construction phases, will be completed by the start of the school year with a total volume of just under 3.5 million euros (of which just under 2 million euros in subsidies) with the draining, façade renovation and partial interior work including fire protection measures. Work at the Pablo Neruda primary school continues to progress: following the completion of measures with a total volume of almost 3 million euros (draining, roof and façade renovation as well as renovation of the sanitary and outdoor facilities in the second construction phase), the school building is expected to be handed back to teachers and pupils after the 2012 autumn holidays. Following the roof renovation at the Heinrich Heine primary school , stair railings and handrails will now be renewed, resulting in a total investment of almost 200,000 euros at this school. By the end of 2012, fire safety measures totalling a good 300,000 euros will have been implemented at Kirchner Primary School in the Chemnitz district of Wittgensdorf, while fire safety measures and the renovation of the toilet facilities are also on the agenda at Rosa Luxemburg Primary School on Chemnitz Brühl, where almost 600,000 euros will be invested. At the Reichenbrand primary and secondary school , work has begun on the shell, roofing and gutting of the listed assembly hall; tenders are currently being invited for various trades for the work. A total of 1,425,000 euros is being invested; completion is planned for August 2013.

For the planned relocation of the Chemnitz school model from its previous home in Charlottenstraße to Stollberger Straße 25, the city of Chemnitz is investing almost 6.5 million euros in the refurbishment of the future school building, including the extension. The move for pupils and teachers is planned for the second half of the 2012/2013 school year.

In addition to the 40 primary schools, Chemnitz is also home to seven grammar schools, twelve secondary schools, seven vocational school centres, ten special schools and two secondary schools run by the City of Chemnitz. In the 2012/2013 school year, around 4,030 girls and boys attended secondary schools and around 4,500 pupils attended grammar schools. In this school sector, too, there have been and continue to be significant innovations in terms of construction: The refurbishment of the sports hall building at Georgius Agricola Gymnasium and the realisation of barrier-free access via a lift as well as the construction of the second structural escape route have already been successfully completed. Further construction work will be carried out this year on the extensive interior work in the school building and the design of the outdoor area. The total costs for the construction work planned at GAG amount to just under 4.5 million euros, of which a good 3 million is subsidised. At Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium , construction also began in spring 2012 for the Zweifeldsporthalle construction project, including the renovation of the building section of the historic Jahnbaude as well as the Hartfeld training ground and the outdoor facilities at the Jahnbaude site. Completion of the extensive construction measures with a total sum of around 4.6 million euros (of which around 2.8 million euros in funding) is planned for autumn 2013.

The construction work at the Vocational School Centre for Technology I - Industrial School will be completed in 2012 with the renovation of the main building and the outbuildings, the cafeteria and the barrier-free expansion of the school site. The outbuilding and cafeteria were already completed in 2010 and the auditorium is currently being renovated and the outdoor facilities repaired. A total of almost 7 million euros is being invested in the BSZ, of which 3.8 million euros is subsidised.

One of the main construction projects of the city of Chemnitz is the new construction of the Chemnitz Special Education Centre for the Physically Disabled, including the construction of a residential facility and all-day care.and all-day care for 48 children and young people with physical and multiple disabilities at the Heinrich-Schütz-Straße site (see also construction decision B-134/2012 - PM 362 dated 21 June 2012).06.2012). The total costs for the extensive project amount to a good 34 million euros, of which just under 15 million euros are subsidies. The ground-breaking ceremony for the extensive construction project took place last Friday with City Treasurer Berthold Brehm and the Saxon Minister of Culture Brunhild Kurth (PM 486 from 24/08/2012).
