Before Peace Day on 5 March: contemporary witnesses meet
Call for participation on 4 March, 3 p.m. at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof
On 5 March, as every year, the city of Chemnitz commemorates the bombing and destruction of the city in 1945 and the victims of the Second World War as well as the victims of wars around the world with events and campaigns. On the day before, Monday 4 March at 3 pm, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze invites contemporary witnesses to a meeting at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof. Pupils from three Chemnitz schools will also be taking part.
Chemnitz residents who experienced the Second World War in Chemnitz and would like to share their childhood memories of 5 March 1945 are invited to come forward. Interested parties can send their memories by post under the keyword "Peace Day" to: City of Chemnitz, GB 9.1, Markt 1, 09111 Chemnitz - or by e-mail to: protokoll(at)stadt-chemnitz.de. Contact details are also accepted by telephone on the public authority telephone number 115. The mail will be treated confidentially and will only be published after consultation. The closing date for entries is 16 February 2024.
Pupils from the Gruuna School, the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium and the Oberschule Am Körnerplatz will be present to provide an exchange between the generations and an authentic insight into the events.
