Bat night at the Knappteich pond
Environment Agency invites you to an excursion - on 16 August, 7.45 p.m.
On Friday 16 August at 7.45 pm, anyone interested is invited to an excursion into the secret nightlife of bats. The meeting point is the footpath at the Knappteich pond behind the Fürstenstraße 174 property and participation is free of charge.
The approx. 1.5-hour tour is also suitable for families with children.
During the evening tour, Dr Gudrun Schneider and Julia Vogel from the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency and volunteer bat expert Holger Tippmann will explain interesting facts about the special features, lifestyle and protection of the flying mammals.
At dusk, hunting bats can be observed in the immediate vicinity. The ultrasonic calls of the bats are made audible with a detector. Bats are fascinating creatures: They see with their ears and fly with their hands. But there are still many prejudices against this group of animals, even though hardly anyone has ever seen a bat up close.
