On Friday, 5 September at 7.30 pm, anyone interested is invited to an excursion into the nightlife of bats. The meeting point is the footpath at the "Milchhäuschen" café, Schloßteichstraße 20. Participation is free of charge. The approximately two-hour tour is also suitable for families with children.
During an evening tour, Julia Vogel from the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency and volunteer bat expert Holger Tippmann as well as the team from the Young Nature Guards Chemnitz (BUND) will explain interesting facts about the special features, lifestyle and protection of the flying mammals.
At dusk, hunting bats can be observed in the immediate vicinity. The ultrasonic calls of the bats are made audible with a detector.
Bats are fascinating creatures: They see with their ears and fly with their hands. But there are still many prejudices against this group of animals, even though hardly anyone has ever seen a bat up close.
