On Thursday, 23 April, from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the height rescuers from the Chemnitz Fire Department will be carrying out exercises at the observation tower on the Totenstein in the Rabenstein Forest as part of their basic training. Ten firefighters are currently undergoing further training to become height rescue technicians (SRHT). The observation tower provides a good training ground.
Representatives of the media are welcome to attend from 11 am to 12.30 pm. The contact person on site is Chief Fire Officer Veit Hiemann.
Note: Access to the Rabenstein Forest by car is not permitted. The shortest walking route to the observation tower is via Pleißaer Straße in Grüna.
Rescue from heights in Chemnitz
The height rescue team of the Chemnitz fire brigade consists of a total of 52 firefighters. The team is deployed on various operations to rescue people and animals from industrial plants, chimneys, high-voltage pylons, quarries, construction cranes, etc.
The Height Rescue Service in the Chemnitz City Fire Department and the Special Rescue from Heights and Depths (SRHT) department enjoy a national reputation and have proven this in numerous performance comparisons: Since 2004, the height rescue service has participated annually in the National Performance Comparison of Professional Fire Departments and has always achieved top placings, including 2nd place twice. In 2012, the national performance comparison took place at the Chemnitz Exhibition Centre. In 2019, the Chemnitz team achieved 1st place at the National Comparison of Height Rescue Teams (SRHT) on the "Rickmer Rickmers" sailing ship in Hamburg.
