Barrier-free expansion of the stops on the ring bus route (Westring) completed
The new stops on the western section of the ring bus route, which had previously only been provisionally constructed since the commissioning of route 82, have been fully extended and made barrier-free. The last stop was accepted today.
The construction work included the stops in Müllerstraße, Fraunhoferstraße, Barbarossastraße, Kanalstraße, Bahnhof Mitte/Niklasberg and Gustav-Freytag-Straße.
In this context, the road surface in the bus stop area was renewed and the existing footpaths and cycle paths were extended.
The stops have been built one after the other since April 2018. Most of them are still being equipped with passenger shelters and electronic display panels for passenger information.
The company Eiffage Infra-Ost GmbH from Drebach/OT Venusberg was commissioned to carry out the work. The construction costs totalled around 970,000 euros. The federal government supported these measures with 75 per cent of the eligible costs as part of the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act.
The expansion of the bus stops in the eastern section of the ring bus route is planned for 2019.
The ring bus route has been part of the local transport plan since December 2017 and connects various districts on the outskirts of the city centre.
