Barrier-free building investment programme - "Favourite places for everyone"
16 measures were approved, funding was awarded in full
The Barrier-free Building Investment Programme came to a successful end for Chemnitz this year. The funding available for 2018 for the removal of barriers in Chemnitz was awarded in full. A total of 177,700 euros in funding from the Free State of Saxony was available. In the first phase, 22 applicants submitted 22 measures totalling around 285,575 euros. Twelve measures were ultimately approved. The programme provides funding for up to 100 percent of the costs if the project does not cost more than 25,000 euros.
The subsidised measures include, for example, a hotel that was given barrier-free access and a barrier-free guest room. Another applicant was approved for the purchase of a motorboat for wheelchair users and a boarding aid with a crane lift.
Over the course of the year, the Free State provided additional funds totalling 600,000 euros for the whole of Saxony. In accordance with the distribution key, the City of Chemnitz was thus able to realise a further four measures totalling 42,800 euros.
The City of Chemnitz would like to thank all applicants. Those who did not receive funding have the opportunity to resubmit their measures for the coming year.

Using every restaurant, going to the cinema without restrictions, visiting a museum or actively playing sport in a club is not possible for everyone. Many of these facilities are not accessible or fully usable for wheelchair users. Information for the hearing and visually impaired, as well as for people with learning difficulties, is often difficult to understand. With this in mind, the Free State of Saxony launched the accessibility investment programme for the first time in 2014 under the motto "Favourite places for everyone" with funding totalling 2.5 million euros. The aim is to make it easier for people with disabilities to access exemplary facilities so that they can become their favourite places.
The programme is aimed at cultural, leisure and educational facilities, as well as healthcare facilities such as doctors' surgeries and therapy rooms. The aim of the programme is to remove barriers in areas where those responsible either do not have the money or cannot make the investment worthwhile. In addition to non-profit initiatives, tradespeople are also eligible.
