Parks Department: Forest fire danger level 4 prohibits public barbecues

In view of the current forest fire danger level 4 (high danger), the City of Chemnitz Parks Department would like to point out that barbecues are currently prohibited in the designated barbecue areas in public green spaces. This is also regulated by the green space statutes of the City of Chemnitz.

The Parks Department appeals to everyone who visits the green spaces, parks and forests at this time, as they provide coolness and shade, to be particularly careful when handling fire due to the high risk of fire. All actions that could start a fire should be avoided. Even a small spark from a carelessly discarded cigarette butt can start an uncontrolled fire and have devastating consequences - including for flora and fauna. In addition to avoiding open fires - including the use of lighters, matches, candles or burning cigarettes - no rubbish should be left lying around, as this can significantly increase the risk of a fire starting.

The risk of wildfires and forest fires is increasing significantly due to the high temperatures and persistent drought. High temperatures without rain are also forecast for the next few days, which will make the situation more difficult.

The development of the risk of forest fires can also be followed on the Sachsenforst website.
