Baby boom at the zoo's petting zoo
The African dwarf goats at Chemnitz Zoo have given birth. After around five months of pregnancy, five females have given birth to eleven young within a week. These include two sets of triplets, two sets of twins and a single animal.
This is a rarity, as the dwarf goats normally only have up to two young. This year, for the first time, two goats have given birth to triplets. Most of the time, the young lie snuggled together under the hay rack. However, the slightly older youngsters are already jumping playfully through the straw.
The goat group has now grown to 21 animals (six females, eleven young, two bucks and two half-growns). They keep the keepers on their toes.
If you would like to visit the eleven young animals, you can do so daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the winter holidays at Chemnitz Zoo. Last admission is one hour before closing time.
