AWO fan project honoured with quality seal today
At the advisory board meeting of the Chemnitz fan project today, Monday, 5 p.m., in the Green Salon of the town hall, the nationwide coordination centre for fan projects (KOS) will award the AWO fan project the quality seal "Fan project according to the national concept of sport and safety". The award ceremony will be attended by representatives of the Coordination Office for Fan Projects, Mayor Philipp Rochold, AWO Chairman Dr Thomas Schuler and AWO Managing Director Jürgen Tautz from the Chemnitz fan project's sponsoring association. The fan project will be represented by its director Nicole Gabriel and employee Kay Herrmann as well as two fan representatives.
Topics at the advisory board meeting include a review of the fan project's work during the Chemnitz FC season and current issues such as the new stadium construction.
Gerd Wagner from KOS will be available as a contact person for the quality seal and will provide information on the test criteria. The seal is valid for three years.

Background: In 2007, Chemnitz was the 34th major city in Germany to launch a football fan project. The Chemnitz fan project is run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Kreisverband Chemnitz und Umgebung e.V. (AWO) in cooperation with the Chemnitz Football Club (CFC), supported and supervised by the City of Chemnitz. The socio-educational fan projects in Germany are managed by a coordination centre at the German Sports Youth (KOS) in Frankfurt/Main. In Saxony, such projects have been established in Leipzig, Dresden, Aue and Zwickau. The fan projects recognised by the German Football Association on the basis of the National Concept for Sport and Safety are funded in thirds by football (DFB/DFL), the state and local authorities.
