Awards for eleven particularly committed and creative projects

Environmental prize for children and young people 2013 presented by Mayor Runkel and CVAG board member Meiwald

The Chemnitz Environmental Prize is awarded annually by the city of Chemnitz together with its partners Chemnitzer Verkehrs AG, eins energie in sachsen GmbH, Südsachsen Wasser GmbH and the waste disposal and city cleaning company of the city of Chemnitz to honour the best ideas and projects by children and young people for active and sustainable environmental protection. Projects are honoured that require a particularly intensive examination of the environment and active action and are designed to be sustainable. The best project is awarded 300 euros, while second and third places are endowed with 200 and 150 euros respectively. A special prize was also awarded.

This year, a total of 23 entries were submitted to the City of Chemnitz's environmental department to take part in the competition. With over 500 children and young people taking part, it is clear, according to the jury, that environmental protection has a considerable and fortunately also growing significance among children and young people and the project-supporting carers.

The award winners were selected by a jury consisting of Anna Rammelt (School Administration Office), Gisela Keil (Office for Youth and Family), Margitta Clauß (representative of eins energie in sachsen GmbH), Kerstin Link (representative of Südsachsen Wasser GmbH), Ingrid Kasiske (Chemnitz Environmental Centre) and Dr Thomas Scharbrodt (Head of the Environmental Office).

Award ceremony: The winners of the Chemnitz Environmental Award 2013 will be honoured this Thursday afternoon (6 June, 2 p.m.) at a festive event in the Chemnitz Tram Museum at Zwickauer Straße 154 to mark Environment Day - representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend. The prizes will be presented by Mayor Miko Runkel and CVAG board member Jens Meiwald as well as other representatives of the City of Chemnitz and the participating companies - here is an overview of this year's prize winners and their creative and committed projects:

Award winners in the daycare centre age category:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the "Silence and Noise" project - the children from the Schönherrstraße 2a daycare centre were honoured.

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the project "What and where is electricity and energy" - awarded to the research group from the AWO daycare centre "Sonnenschein".

3rd prize. 150, certificates and a small gift for the project "In the footsteps of Carl von Carlowitz, a Rabensteiner with vision" - awarded to the Rabennest daycare centre.

Prize winners in the primary school age group:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the "we love birdies" project - awarded to the children of the Glösa primary school after-school group.

Prize winners in the age group of school classes 5 to 8:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the project "KaSchmiR gets wings" - awarded to members of the environmental working group at Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium.

2nd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "Wiesenlärm oder Konzert im Grünen?" - awarded to Falco Eigner from the ecology research group at Einsiedel grammar school.

2nd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "Light and colour = electricity" - awarded to René Wagner, Tim Bachmann and Nick Steinert from class 8a of the Mittelschule am Flughafen.

Prize winners in the 15 to 20 age group:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift are awarded for the project "Occurrence of knotweed (Fallopia japonica) in the northern outskirts of Chemnitz" - awarded to Gabriel Schirmer and Richard Lommatzsch from class 9 of the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Chemnitz.

2nd prize: €200, a certificate and a small gift for the project "Photosynthesis - bionics in the solar power plant" - awarded to Philipp Heidel-Weizel from Year 9 at Burgstädt Grammar School.

3rd prize: €150, a certificate and a small gift for the project "The insect protection glass" - awarded to Camilla Eigner from the ecology research group at Einsiedel grammar school.

The special prize from Südsachsen Wasser GmbH in the amount of €250, a certificate and a small gift were awarded to the four projects "Nuthatch", "Animals in our garden", "Insect hotel" and "Hedgehog" from the First Chemnitz Kindergarten Model in their entirety.
