Awarding of the art prize for German-Czech understanding
INVITATION to the award ceremony - Pavel Kohout and Hermann Huber receive the Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding - Wednesday, 22 October 2014, 6 pm, Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber
One of the outstanding representatives of Czech literature will receive the Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding in Chemnitz on Wednesday, 22 October 2014. The writer and playwright Pavel Kohout will be honoured for his promotion of German-language theatre in the Czech Republic and his intensive literary exploration of German-Czech relations. Another prize winner is Hermann Huber, who, as German ambassador to the Czech Republic in the autumn of 1989, prepared the departure of thousands of GDR citizens. The two honorary prizes go to theatre scholar Jitka Ludvová and former school headmaster Dirk du Pin.
Media representatives are cordially invited to the award ceremony. It will take place at 6 p.m. in Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber. Information on the prize: The prize, which was first awarded in 1994, will be awarded for the 18th time this year. Previous winners include František Černý, Ludvík Kundera, Vratislav Kulhánek, Reiner Kunze, Petr Pithart, Bischof Radkovský, Jürgen Serke, Antje Vollmer, Richard von Weizsäcker and Detlef Wittig.
The prize is awarded jointly by the Adalbert Stifter Association, the Brücke/Most Foundation, the Collegium Bohemicum o.p.s., the Prague Literature House of German-speaking Authors, the International Art Association pro arte vivendi and the Union for Good Neighbourliness of German- and Czech-speaking Countries. The City of Chemnitz and Chemnitz University of Technology are co-organisers of the art award ceremony.
The award ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, the Rector of Chemnitz University of Technology, Professor Arnold van Zyl, and the Consul General of the Czech Republic, Jiří Kuděla. The laudatory speech for Pavel Kohout will be held by Hans Peter Riese, former journalist and ARD foreign correspondent. The laudatory speech for Dr Hermann Huber will be given by Tomáš Kafka, employee of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
