On Sunday, 17 August at 3 p.m., Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky will open the award-winning exhibition of the JugendKunstTriennale 2024 at its last stop in Chemnitz in the "Alte Dreherei" on the Garage Campus, Zwickauer Straße 164.
From 17 August to 7 September 2025, young art talents from Saxony and Bavaria will present their works, which have been awarded prizes by a jury of experts, in Chemnitz.
The JugendKunstTriennale is the most important joint cultural project of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities, which includes Chemnitz, Zwickau, Plauen, Hof, Bayreuth and Marktredwitz. The competition offers young artists between the ages of 14 and 25 a professional stage for artistic works and has been organised regularly since 1998.
For the 2024 edition, 438 works were submitted by 276 young people. 26 prizewinners were honoured. Among them are several young talents from Chemnitz: Main prize winner Lotta Seifert and sponsorship prize winner Finia Merle Schneider, with recognition prizes also going to Maximilian Dotzauer, Sophie Gulde (from Limbach-Oberfrohna, as part of the Chemnitz cultural region), Lara Siegel and Lotte Warncke.
It has now become a tradition to show the prize-winning works as a travelling exhibition in the other cities of the Saxon-Bavarian city network in addition to the large exhibition at the respective venue of the JugendKunstTriennale. The JugendKunstTriennale in 2024 was organised by Hof. From the very beginning of the organisation, it was clear that the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 would be the final destination.
In the run-up to the award-winning exhibition now taking place, the artworks were also shown outside the Saxon-Bavarian city network for the first time in the 27-year history of the JugendKunstTriennale. As a result of the cooperation between the European Capitals of Culture 2025 Chemnitz and Nova Gorica/Gorizia, the award-winning exhibition was presented to a European audience in June as part of the international art biennial Mediterranea 20 Young Artists Biennale BORDERLESS. The young artists from Saxony and Bavaria thus received great recognition.
