This year, the City of Chemnitz's Equal Opportunities Officer, Franziska Herold, and the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, Dina Norberger, will be honouring pupils who are particularly committed to their fellow pupils, respectful cooperation and an inclusive and equal school culture for the first time. To this end, they are awarding a new student representative prize for the city of Chemnitz.
The award, which has the motto "Get involved", will make the commitment of young people visible and honour it. At the same time, it is intended to encourage pupils to get actively involved and take on responsibility - even beyond their school years, for example in politics, business or civil society. With the Student Representative Award, the City of Chemnitz is setting an example for the participation, equality and democratic commitment of young people.
Current pupil or class representatives from Chemnitz schools from Year 1 onwards can be nominated. Both public and public schools are eligible to participate. Each school can nominate up to two people for the award and submit them to the Equal Opportunities Officer or the Children and Youth Officer of the City of Chemnitz. The application period runs from now until 15 April 2026.
The Student Representative Award is presented in the following categories: Primary school, secondary school, special school, grammar school (including vocational grammar schools).
The winners will receive attractive prizes and a certificate, which will be presented by Mayor Ralph Burghart at an awards ceremony.
The winners will be selected by a jury of representatives from various institutions and young people from Chemnitz based on a set catalogue of criteria.
The criteria include: special commitment as a student or class representative, commitment to a positive class or school climate, promotion of cooperation, inclusion and equal treatment, participation in committees, boards or working groups as well as participation in school projects, activities or events.
