Award for Chemnitz museum, day-care centres and schools in the "LernStadtMuseum in Sachsen" programme
Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and Rosa-Luxemburg-Grundschule receive award - special prize goes to Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz and Kindertagesstätte an der Sparkasse
The Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz were honoured today in Dresden with a project contribution to the "LernStadtMuseum in Sachsen" programme of the Saxon State Ministry of Culture. The museum had applied with a project that it is realising together with the Rosa Luxemburg primary school.
In this project, children in grades 1 to 4 visit the art collections every week and engage with the art there in a variety of ways, but always in a practical way. The results are regularly exhibited in the specially set up children's gallery in the foyer of the Chemnitz Art Collections. The museum course has existed in the art education cabinet of the art collections since 1995 and the prize is endowed with 500 euros. At the Rosa Luxemburg Primary School, the creative course was organised as part of the all-day programme in cooperation with the after-school care centre.

The project deserves this award. Young children and great art come together here in an amazing way. This co-operation is exemplary and will hopefully find many imitators thanks to this award."
The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz and the day care centre at Sparkasse Chemnitz received a special prize for the project idea "Experience Nature - A Year between the Forest and the Museum". From the end of September, children between the ages of three and six will get to know the Museum of Natural History as a place of experience and learning. There are also plans to organise forest days with the children from the day-care centre, during which the children will observe animals in the forest, collect leaves and breathe in the forest air. They will record their experiences in their own explorer books, so that next year the day-care centre will be able to present its own mini-museum on the subject of the forest.
Every year since 2007, the Saxon State Ministry of Culture has honoured projects that encourage children to engage with culture and history in an experience-oriented way. The award ceremony took place at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden.
