Award ceremony: Lifesaving medal for Mike Pfab

Invitation for media representatives for Thursday, 20 February, 5 p.m., Agricola Hall

Mike Pfab from Chemnitz will be awarded the Lifesaving Medal of the Free State of Saxony by Mayor Barbara Ludwig next Thursday at 5 pm. In addition to being honoured, Pfab will also sign the city's Golden Book. The award honours his courageous and selfless intervention in July last year, which saved the life of a lorry driver on the A72.

Flashback: In July last year, Mike Pfab and his girlfriend Kareen were travelling on the A72 motorway on their motorbike when a lorry skidded in front of them near the Zwickau-West junction. After an overtaking manoeuvre, Mike Pfab parked the motorbike on the hard shoulder and ran towards the slowing truck. By jumping onto the running board of the lorry, whose driver showed no reaction, and opening the driver's door, the man from Chemnitz managed to apply the brakes and bring the lorry to a halt.

His courageous intervention not only saved the lorry driver's life, but also prevented further accidents.

Note for the media: The meeting point for media representatives is at the Lucretia portal from 4.45 pm.
