Award ceremony for the JugendKunstTriennale 2018 of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities
Three up-and-coming artists from Chemnitz receive recognition awards
On Saturday, 3 March 2018, the award ceremony and vernissage of the 2018 Youth Art Triennial of the Saxon-Bavarian Cities Network took place at the "Malzhaus" cultural centre in Plauen.
The three young artists from Chemnitz, Lisa Kunze, Sophie Lässig and Felix Hammermüller, each received a recognition prize of 200 euros for their submitted works.
A total of 193 young people aged between 14 and 25 from the cities of Chemnitz, Zwickau, Plauen, Hof and Bayreuth and their surrounding areas took part in the competition, submitting a total of 305 entries. 56 young people from Chemnitz submitted a total of 88 entries. Of these, 22 works of art were included in the exhibition by a selected jury of experts.
For the ninth time, the cities of Zwickau, Plauen, Hof, Bayreuth and Chemnitz called on their young artists to participate with paintings, sculptures, photography, collages or similar.
An expert jury has decided on the awards and the works that will be presented in Plauen. The jury member for Chemnitz was the artist and freelance lecturer Peggy Albrecht, who herself was the winner of the first competition.
The entries were judged in two age categories: 14 to 18 years and 19 to 25 years. A total of four main prizes of 500 euros each and 20 recognition prizes of 200 euros each were awarded.
Since 1998, the year it was launched, almost 4,000 young people have taken part in the city network's art competition and their creativity and initiative have made the JugendKunstTriennale a success.
The JugendKunstTriennale 2018 exhibition can be seen until 2 April at the Galerie im Malzhaus in Plauen. Admission to the exhibition is free.
