Award ceremony for the International Stefan Heym Prize of the City of Chemnitz
Invitation for journalists: Preliminary discussion with award winner Richard Swartz and the sponsorship award winners on 10 October, 5 pm at the Opera House
On Sunday, 10 October at 6.30 pm , the International Stefan Heym Prize of the City of Chemnitz 2020 will be awarded to the Croatian writer and journalist Slavenka Drakulić and the Swedish author and journalist Richard Swartz at a ceremony in the Chemnitz Opera House. (The ceremony was postponed until this year due to the pandemic)
The five International Stefan Heym Prizes of the City of Chemnitz will also be awarded.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the ceremony. (Due to the current 3G regulations and the associated contact tracing, we kindly ask you to register. Please use the registration form in the attachment).
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to a discussion with the award winner Richard Swartz and the sponsorship award winners as early as 5 pm. The meeting point is at the main entrance of Chemnitz Opera. (You will be picked up).
The International Stefan Heym Prize of the City of Chemnitz is a literary prize endowed with 20,000 euros. Winners are outstanding authors and publicists who, like Stefan Heym, intervene in social and political debates and stand up for moral values. The five sponsorship awards, which support initiatives, research and projects, e.g. by representatives of the independent creative scene, up-and-coming journalists or pupils and students who keep Heym's work alive, are endowed with a total of 20,000 euros.
The Board of Trustees, which decides on the awarding of the prizes, includes the Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz, the P.E.N. Centre Germany, the Goethe-Institut, C. Bertelsmann Verlag, the International Society for Human Rights (IGFM) - German Section, the International Stefan Heym Society e. V., Prof Dr Bernadette Malinowski, holder of the Chair of Modern and Comparative Literature at Chemnitz University of Technology, and two councillors from the City of Chemnitz Cultural Committee.
