Athletics C facility opens at the Sportforum

On Thursday, 30 May at 10 a.m., the athletics C facility at the Sportforum will be ceremonially reopened in the presence of Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky, the Head of the Sports Department of the Saxon Ministry of the Interior, Andreas Schumann, and numerous representatives of Chemnitz sport.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
The athletics C-facility is an important training and competition centre for Chemnitz's track and field athletes. It comprises six 100 metre sprint tracks, four 400 metre running tracks, one facility for long jump, one for triple jump and two for high jump. A pole vault facility is to be added in the future.
The surface of the large artificial turf pitch has been renewed and new players' cabins have been installed on the running track. The floodlights will be fitted with new LED lights.
A small basketball court, a volleyball court and a beach volleyball court have also been created.
As part of the project, a 100 cubic metre cistern for watering the pitch has been installed in the sports forum in order to be able to manage part of the sports forum sustainably.
The C facility is mainly used by athletics, but can also be used by all other competitive sports for training purposes. The facility - with the exception of the artificial turf pitch - will also be open to all Chemnitz residents free of charge in future.
The construction time was approximately one year. Construction of the C facility and the artificial turf pitch began at the end of May 2023, while the artificial turf pitch was opened for use in November 2023. Work on the C facility was completed on 3 May 2024 with the completion of the lines.
The total costs for the project amounted to around 1.42 million euros, of which around 405,000 euros were covered by federal funds, 405,000 euros by state funds and 584,000 euros by the City of Chemnitz's own funds.
