Athletes sign the Golden Book of Sport of the City of Chemnitz
Invitation to the press event on 8 March, 3 p.m., Town Hall, Grüner Salon
On Tuesday, 8 March, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., successful athletes will sign the Golden Book of Sport of the City of Chemnitz in the Green Salon of City Hall. Pauline Schäfer-Betz, Lea-Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Sophie Grabosch, Joachim Eilers and Stefan Bötticher will be honoured in this way.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend. (The 3G rule applies.)
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze honours the achievements of the individual athletes in 2021. Pauline Schäfer-Betz from Kunstturnverein Chemnitz e. V. won the silver medal on the balance beam at the 2021 Gymnastics World Championships in Japan. In addition to her, Chemnitz cyclists were particularly successful at the 2021 Track Cycling World Championships in Roubaix last year: Lea-Sophie Friedrich from Team 2012 e. V. won the gold medal in the team sprint, the gold medal in the 500 metre time trial, the gold medal in the keirin and the silver medal in the individual sprint. Pauline Sophie Grabosch from Team 2012 e. V. won the gold medal in the team sprint and Joachim Eilers from Team 2012 e. V. won the bronze medal in the team sprint and the bronze medal in the 1000 metre time trial. Stefan Bötticher from Chemnitzer Polizeisportverein e. V. also won the bronze medal in the team sprint at this competition.
This will be the first entry in the city of Chemnitz's new Golden Book of Sport. The honour is on a par with the previous Golden Book, which honours special achievements by Chemnitz residents. In the course of this, it has also become a tradition to honour particularly successful Chemnitz athletes who have won a medal at international championships (Olympics, World Championships, European Championships) with an entry.
Due to the fortunate circumstance that Chemnitz can be proud of many athletes who have been successful over the years, it was decided to bundle these achievements in the Golden Book of Sport of the City of Chemnitz from this year onwards.
