At nightfall - childhood memories of contemporary witnesses on 5 March 1945

To mark Chemnitz Peace Day on Saturday 5 March, an audiovisual exhibition showing how children experienced the war at the time will open in Chemnitz Town Hall from 8 am to 6 pm. The exhibition "At nightfall - childhood memories of contemporary witnesses on 5 March 1945" consists of large black and white portraits of contemporary witnesses today. When these are illuminated with torches, excerpts from interviews with the 18 men and women who were asked about their memories last year begin.
On the Peace Day lecture, Friday 4 March at 2 pm, the contemporary witnesses and representatives of the press are invited to visit the exhibition in the town hall in advance. (Please register at the town hall reception. The hygiene rules then in force must be observed).
After 5 March, the exhibition will be open Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm and Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. It will be on display in the exhibition room of Chemnitz Town Hall until 6 May 2022.
The exhibition is accompanied by a 20-page brochure containing text excerpts and portraits of the contemporary witnesses.

The exhibition is part of the Chemnitz Peace Day programme. On 5 March, the Peace Day working group and many other actors in the city commemorate the bombing of Chemnitz 77 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year, thousands of Chemnitz residents take a stand for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and xenophobia.
