Asylum theme evening
Information from the Coordination Centre on the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP)
Mai Alkurdi from Syria and Thomas Schuler (AWO Kreisverband Chemnitz) will talk about the topic "Fleeing from Syria - Arriving in Germany" and will be happy to answer questions from those present. Syria is a country with a long cultural past and is currently experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe, destruction of infrastructure, world cultural heritage and everything that makes life worth living. How do refugees in Germany - a country at peace, 25 years after reunification, an economic powerhouse in Europe - cope with everyday life here today?
Knowing more means talking more with each other in order to find out more. This is the aim of the event organised by the Initiative EH. The EH initiative is a group of citizens and associations from the districts of Ebersdorf and Hilbersdorf who meet regularly with the community coordinator, Mr Hähle. The aim is to make a positive contribution to the joint coexistence of asylum seekers and citizens in the two neighbourhoods. People are very welcome to join in and organise further activities.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in the federal programme "Demokratie leben" (Living Democracy) and the "Lokaler Aktionsplan" (Local Action Plan) of the City of Chemnitz.
