On Wednesday, 11 February, the old ash tree on the Schloßteichinsel will be felled.
The approximately 170-year-old common ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior) was severely damaged by arson in July 2025. In addition, the tree is no longer stable due to progressive rot caused by fungi. Following another arson attack in early January 2026, the striking tree has been irreversibly damaged and must now be felled immediately for reasons of road safety.
The permits required for felling have been obtained. Requirements, such as the installation of replacement nesting boxes on neighbouring trees, will of course be implemented.
Replacement planting will also take place this year.
