Artificial turf pitch at the Sportforum to be opened

Invitation for journalists: 30 October, 2.30 pm, Sportforum Chemnitz

On Friday 30 October at 2.30 pm, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, together with representatives of Chemnitzer FC, will open the new artificial-turf pitch at the Sportforum Chemnitz, Reichenhainer Straße 154.

Members of the media are invited to attend.

The construction of a second artificial turf pitch between the athletics hall and the swimming pool was completed this month. The new artificial turf pitch measures 45 by 90 metres, making it suitable for football matches. The pitch is intended to safeguard the future of the CFC youth academy and better meet the generally high demand for artificial turf pitches for club and grassroots sport in the city of Chemnitz.

To prevent rainwater from being discharged into the sewerage system, the pitch has been fitted with a drainage trench, which allows surface water and drainage water to seep away directly beneath the pitch.

The construction work ran from March to the end of October 2026. The construction costs amount to approximately 1.7 million euros, financed from the city’s own funds as well as through grants from the EU’s Energy and Climate Programme totalling approximately 265,000 euros.
