Art project "SaufDRUCK" and "Crazy? So what! - Mentally fit at school"

On Tuesday, 20 March at 11 a.m., the graphic art exhibition lebens-wert will open with the art project "SaufDRUCK" and "Verrückt? So what! - Mentally fit at school" will be opened by Dr Harald Uerlings, Head of the Chemnitz City Health Department, and the artist Ronald Münch in the exhibition room at Chemnitz City Hall.
Interested parties and representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
For the art project "SaufDRUCK", 18 people with a diagnosis of mental illness came together and spent six months processing their experiences and feelings through the medium of art. Social exclusion and rejection is something that almost all people with this diagnosis fear or have experienced. And yet it can affect anyone: the person living on the street, the civil servant, the child, the student, anyone who is supposedly successful or has failed.
The participants found the courage to stand up together and come to terms with their experiences and fears. The results can be seen in this impressive exhibition. The project recognises and publicly appreciates people who are alone with their diagnosis and often go unnoticed on the margins of society.
Ronald Münch, an artist from Chemnitz, initiated the project and gave those affected space to come together in a "respectful community". Last year, he was honoured with the Citizens' Prize of the Chemnitz Community Foundation for this work.
Münch is also a personal expert in the "Crazy? So what! - Mentally fit at school" project. The exhibition is intended to convey impressions of the work of the prevention project at Chemnitz schools.
The "Crazy? Na und!" project takes place on one school day at a time and brings the topic of mental health to children and young people. It shows simple and effective ways in which pupils and teachers can overcome crises together and strengthen mental health so that everyone can successfully complete their schooling and training.
In Chemnitz, the programme is coordinated by the Chemnitz City Health Department. Anke Protze, deputy head of the health department: "We want to make a contribution to the prevention of mental health in children and young people because we know that mental crises and illnesses are common and predominantly begin in adolescence, they are still taboo and those affected often find help too late."
This makes effective prevention and health promotion projects all the more important. Schools are an ideal place for this. "Crazy? So what! - Mentally fit at school" is a prevention programme by Irrsinnig Menschlich e.V. from Leipzig in cooperation with BARMER and gesundheitsziele.de as well as the model project for the implementation of the national health goals "Growing up healthy" and "Preventing depression".

Admission is free of charge.
Ronald Münch will be on site during the above opening hours to accompany the exhibition. Engaging in dialogue, showing openness and overcoming barriers are the first steps towards breaking down exclusion in society.
