"Art in construction" competition for future cooperation school
City of Chemnitz seeks artistic works - first prize to be realised
The city of Chemnitz is organising an art competition for the design of the new cooperation school currently under construction at Planitzwiese, Heinrich-Schütz-Straße 61. We are looking for artistic works that create an unmistakable reference to the location and help the future pupils to identify with their secondary school.
Participation is now open. The competition consists of two stages. National and international artists and artist groups are initially invited to apply to take part. A maximum of three work samples are required. Ten participants or groups will go through to the next round.
The competition will then start on 15 August. Those selected can choose one of the three possible locations and design it artistically. They can choose between the design of the glass vestibule and the glass façade opposite in the foyer, the ceiling design of the arcade and the exterior design of the west façade on the first floor of the sports hall.
The artwork is intended to enrich the school site and enhance the quality of the school experience. The work should be permanently visible on site. Artists can use a variety of media. Flat works such as painting, printing or graphics, but also the use of ceramic materials, glass or metal works as well as relief or light works are possible.
The winners will be announced at the beginning of January 2023. The first prize will be realised during the construction work. The competition entries will be exhibited in the foyer of the Technical City Hall until the end of February 2023.
The full requirements can be found in the competition text at www.chemnitz.de/kunstambau
In future, around 600 pupils from Year 1 to Year 10 will learn according to a special educational concept at the new cooperation school at Planitzwiese, Heinrich-Schütz-Straße 61.
