Art despite exclusion
Invitation to the opening on Monday, 11 March, 6 p.m., Wirkbau Chemnitz
An unusual art project will set an example against racism and exclusion in Chemnitz on Monday, 11 March 2019, at 6 p.m. at Wirkbau Chemnitz, ground floor House D, Lothringer Str. 11, Chemnitz.
Under the title "Kunst trotz(t) Ausgrenzung", an exhibition in Chemnitz with contributions by renowned artists will take a stand against xenophobia and all forms of marginalisation. With over 200 exhibits, the more than 50 artists clearly position themselves against ideologies of alleged inequality and the unequal value of people. The Diakonie travelling exhibition, which will be on display in Chemnitz for the first time in eastern Germany, is directed against current developments in Germany and Europe. The patrons of the exhibition are the Minister of State for Integration and Equality, Petra Köpping, and the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig.
The exhibition Kunst trotz(t) Ausgrenzung will be shown at two locations in the city from 11 March to 1 May: At Wirkbau Chemnitz, Hall D, during opening hours:
Tuesday to Friday from 2pm to 6pm,
Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm,
Closed on Good Friday, 19 April 2019. Admission is free.
And at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz (Theaterplatz 1), prints from the "Flagge zeigen" series by Edition Staeck are on display.
The exhibition is part of the federal "Live Democracy!" programme and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The show, conceived as a travelling exhibition by Diakonie Deutschland, opened in Kassel at the "documenta" in February 2018 and made a stop in Braunschweig in autumn 2018. After Chemnitz, it will be on show in Stuttgart.
