Around 1.2 hectares of forest is being created in Altchemnitz
Compensatory measure for forest conversion in Reichenhain
Construction and planting work is expected to begin at the end of November on plots 767 and 565c in the Altchemnitz district to create a forest area of around 1.2 hectares. This will adjoin an existing forest.
The new area consists of a shrub belt with approx. 350 shrubs, a forest mantle consisting of approx. 350 smaller deciduous and fruit trees and a forest area with approx. 2,700 deciduous trees. In addition, 20 bird of prey perches will be erected.
This is a compensatory measure for the conversion of a forest-like area into a public green space, which was implemented at the beginning of 2023 in connection with development plan no. 96/04 "Richterweg" by the City of Chemnitz's green space office. In the course of this, the Higher Forestry Authority of the Sachsenforst state enterprise and the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the City of Chemnitz's Environmental Agency had unanimously requested reforestation as compensation.
The work is being carried out by the construction company Hammer from Chemnitz. The total construction costs amount to around 55,000 euros.
